Anson goes to the Merlion

We bought Anson to the Merlion on Saturday as wife had arranged to meet a friend around the area.

Wife and her friend decided to catch-up at the Starbucks at One Fullerton. Ever since Anson learnt to sit up on his own, he rather be sitting up than lying down on his back.

In Starbucks baby chair, Anson was chilling with a biscuit in his hands. This isn’t any ordinary biscuit, its a teething biscuit that allows Anson to chew on to rid of his itch his new teeth are giving him.

It rained so we spend most of the time at Starbucks. After awhile, Anson got a bit tired so a simple trip in his pram up and down One Fullerton got him to sleep in a jiffy.

The rain stopped and we headed to the Merlion.

We headed down to the Big Durian, aka The Esplanade for dinner. On the way, I took some random shots.

We originally wanted to explore Marina Square for dinner but the rain prevented us from going across the street. Dinner was settled at Simply Peranakan.

We had the set meal for 2 though we had 3 of us. The staff at Simply Peranakan was generous with the extra serving of rice with no extra charge.

Of course, what’s a Peranakan meal with Ayam Buah Keluak. Though the Buah Keluak served were rather small, but this felt more chunky than the previous shop at Singapore Expo. The chunky insides means that the inside of the Buah Keluak seed is pounded rather than blended.

Blended Buah Keluak is the fastest and easiest way out but it does affect the taste as it makes it too fine to be traditional Ayam Buah Keluak.

Another thing interesting about the soup dishes is that it is served in claypot. Claypot is usually used to retain the heat and flavour of the dish.

The Nonya Chap Chap taste excellent too. Almost as close to my Grandma’s and that’s a compliment.

The fish otah is also chunky in bite, but the lack of chili hotness was a disappointment.

Another disappointment was the Bawang Kepeting soup which had the Bawang Kepeting that taste more like a meatball. Didn’t take a photo of that dish though but it was served as an individual serving.

The beef rendeng was a add-on to the set meal. The beef was fresh and not too tough, which is usually a sign of being over cooked.

After dinner, we took a short work down the Singapore River and we were welcomed with a beautiful rainbow against the orange blue sky.

What a way to end a perfect Saturday outing.
